Building Climate-ready Communities:
Severe storms this past winter wreaked havoc along the coast of Maine and left communities and habitats altered in many ways. Stronger winds, extreme precipitation and temperatures, and flooding are only a few of the hazards exacerbated by climate change. Maine’s island and coastal communities are vulnerable to these impacts, but many communities are taking action to mitigate human causes of climate change and are adapting systems and infrastructure to lessen hazard impacts. Join Gayle Bowness, Municipal Climate Action Program Manager at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI), Hannah Pingree, Director of the Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future (GOPIF), and resilience planner Gabe McPhail to learn about climate science, community resilience, and how the state and Maine communities, particularly North Haven and surrounding islands, are taking action For our NHCP Annual Meeting, we are hosting this important presentation and panel discussion on Tuesday, August 6 at 5 pm at Peter Allen’s Barn on Crabtree Point Road.
Gabe was one of the presenters for the winter 2023 Island Institute program on “Storm Science” which is available via this link.
Parking is limited, so please carpool if possible – and please leave spaces closest to the barn for those with mobility challenges. Appetizers and refreshments will be provided! We hope to see you there.
We also have an exciting kayak outing planned for July 23. See below for details
